Fabric Pests

Silverfish, clothes moth and carpet beetle are main pests of fabric.

moth

Silverfish

Silverfish eat away at wallpaper, carpet, fabrics, photos, books, clothing at night in your home. We also can find silverfish living under the bark of trees and gaarden beds, under rocks, in rotten logs outdoors. They pfefer damp, dark, warm and humid places to harbor.

Clothes moth

mothClothes moths are widely known for the damage of clothes, fabrics, furs, leather, blankets and carpets by their larvae. They are different from stored product moths. Clothes moth prefer to stay in the dark. Only the larvae stage can cause damage, the damage may continue for many weeks after moth caterpillars have hatched. Female adult moths are short-lived, surviving on average less than two weeks (14 days). They tend to die soon after laying eggs, which they attach to their preferred fabrics.

Carpet Beetle

mothThis species comes in a variety of shapes, sizes and colour but generally they resemble a ladybird in shape with their colour ranging from black to brown and even white and yellow. Adults generally 2-3mm long.
Adults are not a pest in your home as they tend to live outside and eat nectar and pollen. However, towards late summer they are extremely likely to enter your home and lay up to 40 eggs at a time in any natural fibres, such as curtains and carpets, in your home.
The eggs hatch as larvae within 2 to 3 weeks and it is these larvae – sometimes called Woolly Bears – that do so much damage, because their diet consists of any natural fibre such as carpets, soft furnishings and clothes. Carpet beetle infestations can spread quickly.
